Installing and using Actions

Photoshop

ID: 26
Difficulty: Easy
Published: March 29, 2010
Used program: Adobe Photoshop 7.0

Install

  1. Download the desired Photoshop Action zip. If you cannot unzip the file, go to CNET Download.com and download WinRAR or WinZIP. Either one works.
  2. Click on the folder and look for a file that has an extension that is .atn.
  3. Now, you must go to your Photoshop Folder. Your directions should be similar to mines, if not exactly the same. I'm using Photoshop 7.0 so it might be different for you CS users.
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 7.0\Presets\Photoshop Actions
  4. Drag the file that has the extension of .atn into the Actions folder and close it.

Using

  1. Open Photoshop (if you don't have it already opened) and your desired image.
  2. Look for the 'Window' tab at the top and click it then look for 'Actions'. If it doesn't have a check, then click on it. If it does have a check, look for your 'Actions' window. (Or you can press F9).
  3. Now click on the additional arrow that either points down or to the right on your Action window and select 'Load Actions'.

  4. A window will pop-up and it will reveal some default Actions and the one(s) that you have placed in there. (The ones from me will begin with: yfd_action_0##) Click on the action you wish to use and it will appear on your action list.

  5. It will most likely be in a folder so click the folder and it should reveal the title of the Action. Click on the Action so that it is highlighted and press the play button (Gray arrow that's pointing to the right and is located at the bottom of your action box. It wil become green when hovered over or is clicked on) and watch your image become edited.
